Carbamazepine
Drug Name : Carbamazepine
Indications : Carbamazepine is a first line antiepileptic drug for generalized and partial seizures. The drug is used to control pain in trigeminal neuralgia and in treatment of bipolar effective disorder.
Physiology :  The addition of anticonvulsants which decrease carbamazepine level may cause seizures. Drugs which increases the concentration of carbamazepine causes delayed toxicity.
Normal Values : 8-12 µg/ml (25-51 µmol/L)
Critical Values : Higher than normal values causes central nervous system toxicity
Test Method : Enzyme Immunoassay, Gas chromotography, HPLC
Side effects : Drug may cause increased toxicity
Related Drugs : Theophylline, Valporic acid, Warfarin.
