How often have we been told to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day?
A recent insight has pointed out that drinking too much water may not be protective as it is thought to be.
There is not much evidence to prove that consuming 8 glasses of water can actually help lose weight, offset kidney damage and enhance concentration. There is not much evidence to show that drinking water in excess can actually prevent many health problems.
A recent article in the British Medical Journal has said that drinking large amounts of water can actually hamper sound sleep in the night as one needs to wake up often to use the washroom. Excess water can also result in kidney damage.
The article also speaks of a rare but fatal condition called hyponatraemia, which causes the salt levels to drop in the body and trigger inflammation in the brain.
